Pluton Intermission (Cycle 24:27:32), by Salman Bakht, is a collection of four electronic (mostly) drone tracks combining stochastic and deterministic processes, noise and simple periodic waveforms. Unlike most music, this album uses a scale that spans the interval of the perfect fourth (diatessaron) instead of the octave. Based on the Pythagorean tuning system, this scale consists of alternating intervals of 9:8 (sesquioctavum) and 32:27 (semiditone).
Frequencies: 120 Hz x {(4/3)n, 9/8 x (4/3)n : n is an integer; –3 = n = 8}.
Plutonian Harmonic: I. 12,680,330 II. 8,261,630 III. 15,191,774 IV. 2,921,495.
Sources: white noise, sinusoids, triangle/sawtooth waves, square waves.
Tools: MATLAB, Adobe Audition, Audacity, Wolfram Alpha, Wikipedia, Notepad++, Windows Calculator, Asus Eee PC 1001P (pink).
Inspirations: Coil, La Monte Young, Percival Lowell, Clarence Barlow, Joseph Fourier, Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor, Claude Shannon, Phill Niblock.
Play these tracks at any volume, at any speed, in any combination (in series or parallel), at any time, in any context, with any accompaniment (sonic or otherwise). Through cyclic iteration, all objects, all moments, all voices are linked.
